MGI AT POCKET GAMER CONNECTS LONDON 2025
Our stand out session
A review of EU consumer law published in October 2024, led by Isabel Davis from Wiggin, who delved into the Digital Fairness Fitness Check. Isabel highlighted that the upcoming regulations will significantly impact the free-to-play model for games in the coming years. She encouraged industry participants to actively engage with the European Commission and contribute to the ongoing discussions on the forthcoming Digital Fairness Act, expected in late 2025 / early 2026. Other key policy themes during the event included:
The opportunities arising from new digital competition regimes, particularly in the UK and EU. Experts emphasised the importance of diversifying app distribution and monetisation strategies. They also stressed the need to develop direct communication channels with users, ensuring improved gaming experiences and fostering stronger player engagement.
The evolution to a privacy-first digital world and the need for advertisers and their partners to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Panellists emphasised the opportunities of first-party data.
Final thought...
Overall, the event provided MGI with valuable insights into the ever-evolving gaming industry. As regulations shift and opportunities emerge, it is essential for game companies to stay informed and adapt their strategies to maintain success in the years ahead.
We're already looking forward to next year’s event!
